About Us

To us…you’re family!

Comfort Keepers are the compassionate people who deliver Comfort Keepers’ premier brand of in-home caregiving. They enrich the lives of seniors and other adults as they help them live safely, happily and independently in the comfort of their own homes.

Comfort Keepers are professional and well trained. What truly sets them above other in-home caregivers, however, is their natural gift for caring for others. They have a heart for caregiving—and Comfort Keepers has a thorough screening and interviewing process to identify them from those less devoted.

Only those who pass this process go on to complete training to deliver our special brand of care—and become Comfort Keepers. Our Comfort Keepers also pass extensive background checks and complete continuing education. Also, they’re bonded, insured and covered by Workers’ Compensation insurance to protect our clients and their families—and because they are Comfort Keepers employees, we take care of their payroll taxes.

To achieve the most favorable outcome for each Comfort Keepers client, we carefully match Comfort Keepers and clients whose personalities and interests—as well as skills and needs—mesh well.  This forms the basis of strong, healthful relationships.

Comfort Keepers work as trusted partners with family caregivers to provide their loved ones a complete in-home care solution to promote independent living.

Local Ownership

Family owners: Deborah and Gailen Spinka and Lindsey Arthur

Comfort Keepers was organized in 1997 by Kris and Jerry Clum. Kris, a Registered Nurse, saw a need to help people remain in their own homes. Kris scheduled many medical stops every day in patients’ homes, and she was frustrated because she was unable to take care of the other needs and requests of her clients because of time constraints and the fact that these requests were outside the medical field. From a desire to fill a need, Comfort Keepers has exploded to become the #1 elder care franchise in the United States. With offices in most counties in Florida, Comfort Keepers will soon become a household name.

Gailen Spinka was a project manager working fire protection projects for nuclear power plants in the U.S. and Canada. A few years after 9/11 Gailen lost all desire for the hassles of work related travel and decided to work locally. Being a project manger he combined the skills and passions of his family members to determine the type of business his family could support. His wife Deborah had experience and enjoyed accounting so she was perfect for the Office Manager. His daughter, Lindsey Arthur, had a history of being a caregiver; it was her passion. She was perfect for the Care Manager. Based on Gailen’s experience as a project manager he was most suitable as the General Manager. After reviewing 12 franchises that provided in-home care the three family members formed a corporation and in the spring of 2004 purchased the franchise that they believed promoted the highest quality care, Comfort Keepers.

Comfort Keepers Franchising, Inc (CKFI) provides oversight and support for local ownership. This arrangement provides the benefits of the owners living in and being responsible to the community while being monitored to ensure quality of service.

Comfort Keepers #560 is a locally owned and operated in-home care company that is registered with Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA) as a Home Health Agency.  Our license number is 299992888.
